A crisis always reveals where we put our hope and trust. When times are good, we don’t need help. We may assume that we are good with God if our circumstances are good. When the storms of life come, the cracks in our foundation gets revealed. We discover who or where we put our hope and trust.
During this crisis, we may put our hope in politicians. We hope that they will provide financial stimulus for ourselves and businesses. We may put our trust in scientists to discover the cure. It may be in the people in our lives. We seek their comfort and encouragement. We may even trust ourselves more during this time. We may believe that we need to work harder or fix our problems ourselves.
We need to put our trust in organizations and people. However, that needs to be our secondary hope. Our primary trust shouldn’t be in ourselves, people or organizations. We aren’t perfect. People and organizations aren’t perfect. We will be disappointed and go through this roller coaster of fatigue, anxiety and stress.
So where do we place our hope and trust during a crisis? We need to take hold of Isaiah 40:31.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
We need to put our hope in God. We need to trust him 100 percent. We can’t say that we trust God completely in our hearts and not with our eyes. What we look at is what we focus on. If we are watching the news or looking at the stock market then that’s where our hearts and minds will be. Our heart feels what our eyes see. Look to God and feel his peace.
Putting our hope in God means that we believe God and His word. We ask God and seek after God’s ways and thoughts. We wait on God and expect him to answer and move. It’s an act of submission and knowing that God is God. It’s listening and doing what God wants rather than what we want.
When we do this, God does something for us. He gives us four promises from Isaiah 40:31. These four promises help us to know that we are trusting in God more than ourselves or others. It’s the sign of trust and waiting.
GOD RENEWS OUR STRENGTH FOR TODAY
When we trust in ourselves, we get tired. We have no energy because we are pushing ourselves. Even if we aren’t working hard, we are emotionally exhausted. When we trust in God, he gives us emotional and physical strength. He gives us power and hope for the day. It’s a peace to know that God is working and moving today. It’s a belief that God has a plan and purpose. This gives us peace and a quiet strength in your soul.
GOD SOARS WITH US TO SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE
When we trust God, we will soar on wings like eagles. This means that we will be able to see the bigger picture in our situation. When we are stressed and worried, we can only see the problems right in front of us. We can see nothing but that issue. When we trust God, we are able to see everything. We see the big picture. We see the landscape and how God may be moving. There is always hope when we see what God sees.
GOD RUNS WITH US TO HELP US MOVE FORWARD
When we trust ourselves, we can only run a for a little bit. We are pushing to make progress and move forward, but we can’t. When you put God at the center, he allows you to move forward. We are able to run with God. God gives us the ability to run forward and move in the direction he wants. We don’t get tired. We feel more energy and passion to run and do the work he has called us to do.
GOD WALKS WITH US TO NOT STAY WHERE WE ARE AT
It’s hard to move when we are in crisis. God helps us move and get up when we trust in him. He won’t let us stay where we are at. It may feel like we aren’t moving. But God is walking with us. He will get us to where we need to be. It may not be where we think or want. It may be he’s transforming our heart and character. He’s building our spiritual muscles to see things and do things differently. But it’ll give you strength and hope. We will be able to get up and walk out of it.
Lets put our hope and trust in God today so that we can be renewed, sou, run and walk!
